Collaboration with Trish Scott: commissioned by Ideas Test.
A project reversing the usual dynamics of production and reception in the artistic process. Piloted in Swale in 2014, we worked with three households (with little or no previous experience of contemporary art) to each commission and direct an artist to make a bespoke artwork for their homes. The production process was underpinned by discussion and negotiation with the aim of generating a new understanding about art between artists and households.
It was a listening project - in the sense of creating a space for dialogue and sharing predicated on Trish and my roles as listeners. We wanted to hear a range of views on contemporary art practice, from both makers and audiences.
Artists (selected by households) were Alistair Levy, Alicja Rogalska and Rosalie Schweiker. The project resulted in three artworks, a publication, a radio programme and a public discussion at the Whitstable Biennale Satellite in 2014.
